NJ Motor Vehicle Commission Parking Garage Rehabilitation

Provided structural engineering and construction inspection services to implement repair recommendations stemming from a Structural Condition Survey of the parking garage of the State Motor Vehicle Services Administration Building in Trenton. The seven-level parking garage, completed in 1992, was in need of several priority improvements, including concrete repairs at joints; sealing of topside cracks; repair of concrete spalls; replacement of sealant joints, deck expansion joints, and perimeter expansion joints; cleaning, priming, and painting of all exposed steel and corroded drain out spouts; and restriping of all parking and graphics.

In addition to reviewing all available design drawings and specifications of the parking garage, our structural engineers re-inspected the entire facility to develop as-builts and document the exact location and extent of repair items. Once we had a clear understanding of the full extent of the repair work, we coordinated with repair product manufacturer’s to develop the repair details. Because most of the repairs involved specialty products such as specialty repair concrete, pre-fabricated expansion joints, joint sealants, and special coatings, it was imperative that our team vet out the proper application and specification for the repairs. Finally, our engineers developed a detailed construction sequencing and work plan and provided inspection services during the implementation of the repairs to ensure a successful project.
