Maser Consulting provided geotechnical engineering services for this proposed development at the corner of 20th Street and Shamokin Street in Philadelphia, which will include the partial demolition and vertical expansion (an additional 17 stories) of the existing historic granary building. Upon completion, the building will stand 24 stories tall.
Our geotechnical engineering services included the execution of a geotechnical exploration program consisting of test borings and test pits, designed to map the existing building foundations. After evaluating the existing and proposed loads on the existing foundations, we determined that the existing spread footing foundations had sufficient excess capacity to support the proposed expansion. Recommendations were also provided for micro-pile foundations socketed into the underlying bedrock to support the proposed new interior columns.
