Nomahegan Lake Rehabilitation

Cranford Township, Union County, NJ

Performed feasibility studies, land and bathymetric surveys, and wetlands delineation to determine the best long- and short-term courses of action to improve the overall health of four Union County lakes. Each lake required a unique set of restorative improvements. This project was realized utilizing Green Acres and County Open Space funding. Our professionals worked closely with the NJDEP to develop plans in accordance with NJDEP regulations that focused on the restoration of the natural lake bottom and establishment of long-term bank stabilization measures, while minimizing costs and permitting requirements.

Services provided for the restoration of Nomahegan Lake, the first of the four lakes to be completed, included the development of long-term sustainable restoration alternatives with cost scenarios; project management; and construction documents to implement these improvements. The site and structural improvements applied to Nomahegan Lake included sediment dredging; hydro-raking; invasive weed removal; erosion control; substantial buffer landscaping; bank stabilization including biolog installation; outflow repairs; circulation improvement including the installation of aerators; fish restocking; and the provision of recreational access points.
